9-11 December, David ministered in Slovyansk, Ukraine; formerly under rebel control, but still on the borders of the war zone. There is still no end to the conflict between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian separatists; since the war erupted in 2014, more than 10,000 have been killed, with many more displaced and homeless. David held meetings with local church leaders and bishops, refugees from the war zone, military personnel and chaplains, and finally a big service on the Sunday in the church of Bishop Demidovich.
Bishop Demidovich said: "I have experienced all the horrors of this terrible war. Our church building was taken, I was thrown into the basement. One night the rebel tanks were firing from our church territory. My wife said, "I will not even pray. God does not hear." But in the morning, Slovyansk was free! Nothing can help us, only God! I want exactly the same miracle to happen in all Ukraine, not to have exploding bombs over our heads. Therefore, we pray to the Lord to stop this war and for peace to come. Itís not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord."
