“Get up and live!” - Jesus says to you as He said to Jairus’ daughter, “Get up”. Arise from your depression. Arise from your sickness. Arise from your fears. Live again!
While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
He did not let anyone follow Him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at Him.
After He put them all out, He took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with Him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. (Mark 5:35-42)
God loves you so much that He sent His Son to die - not just for the good people, He died for the sinners, the outcasts, the rejected. We serve a wonderful God. He is not an old man in Heaven; He is not somebody to be afraid of: God is my Father, He is your Father; God is our Father. We are the sons and daughters of God. Jesus is the good shepherd, He came to seek and the save the lost; He loves you and wants to bring you home - in the Gospel of John, Jesus said, “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:3.)
“Why bother the teacher anymore, your daughter is dead”
Some people from the house of Jarius, the synagogue leader came to him and said, “Don’t bother the teacher anymore, your daughter is dead.” How did Jesus respond? When He heard this, the first thing He said to the girl’s father was, “Don’t be afraid” - I want to say the same thing to you, don’t be afraid: don’t be afraid of God. Don’t hold back from Him. God is looking for you. He has searched all over the world for you. God wants to bless you; He wants to forgive you and bring peace into your life; to take away sadness and bring you joy; to cast out fear and bring you love. Jesus said to the girl’s father, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” The most wonderful message in the Bible, the simplest message I can give, is: ‘only believe’. If you will believe today, nothing is impossible.
When Jesus arrived at the girl’s home, everybody was crying and wailing loudly, this is what He said, “Why are you crying? The girl isn’t dead, she is only asleep.” They laughed at Him. They knew she was dead; they had seen her die. How could Jesus make such a mistake, the girl is dead.
Do you know who is laughing today? The devil is laughing because he thinks he has you convinced that you don’t need salvation and forgiveness; that you don’t need the love of God; that you are trapped in sickness, depression and fear. The devil is lying to you. He is deceiving you. You don’t belong to him; Jesus has come into your house to heal and deliver you, to set you free.
Jesus went to the girl, took her by the hand, and said, “Get up!” And the girl arose. Jesus says the same to you: “Get up and live; arise from your depression, rise to a new life!”
Arise [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you - rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you! (Isaiah 60:1, Amplified Bible)
Jesus looks at you and says there is still time; there is a miracle waiting to happen. Whatever age, whichever circumstance you find yourself in, you can begin anew. How do I know this to be true? For three days Jesus was in the grave, but on the third day, the Power of God came into the body of Jesus, He broke out of the grave and is alive forevermore.
I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 1:19-20)
