Through Christ we have received an inheritance; we have obtained this because Jesus died and rose again. What does this mean? It means you can receive the forgiveness of sin; that the curse and the power of the devil is broken; your healing, is part of this inheritance; all the promises in the Bible are part of the inheritance you have received from Jesus. You have been blessed with every spiritual blessing, all because of this inheritance.
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will. (Ephesians 1:11)
To receive an inheritance means that somebody has died and that they left you all their possessions and money. So many people dream of receiving a substantial inheritance from a long-lost rich relative. But I want to talk about reality, not dreams; I want to show you what the Bible says about our inheritance. The Bible describes the blessing that God wants to give us as like an inheritance. It comes to us only one way: just like an inheritance which we receive from a loved one, it comes when the person giving it to you dies.
There are many reasons why Jesus had to die upon a cross. We know that this is the only way of salvation and forgiveness of our sins. But God wants to give us so much more than just forgiveness of sin; that is only the beginning. The Bible has so much to say about this inheritance, all the things that God wants to give us: the love of God, the power of God, the forgiveness of sin, miracles of healing.
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
All over the world people are sick and in pain. They die in pain. But God has given us a promise of a deliverance which is our inheritance. This is what the Bible says: when we begin to trust Jesus - this is after we received the Good News of salvation - after we believe the message, then we become sealed - the Bible says the Holy Spirit of God is the seal of our inheritance; the Bible actually says the Holy Spirit in us becomes the evidence of the inheritance.
Years ago as a young pastor in England, I visited one poor old man. He had no wife or family; his home was small and in a terrible condition; he was dressed in filthy dirty clothes. He had no bathroom, no shower; his toilet was at the bottom of the garden. When I met him I was so sorry for him; certainly he was not a believer. Yet this man, who appeared so poor, who lived in a filthy house, had a miserable life, who worked very hard - this man was one of the richest men in the whole town. He had money in the bank, he owned company stocks and shares and many other investments - but everything was simply sitting in his bank. He didn’t use it to buy food or furniture. He didn’t have a car or a nice house - he lived in total poverty. The money and investments were in the bank - thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions lying there, but he didn’t use it, and within a few months he died. And he took nothing with him. He is not the only one like that. There are people who live in complete poverty and only when they die do we find they had millions in the bank. I am sure you have read similar stories in the newspaper.
I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ. (Romans 15:29)
What I want you to understand is that some of you are living just like that, but spiritually. Spiritually you can be just like that man, no power, no blessing, no joy. Yet in heaven there is all the glory, all the power of God - power to heal the sick, to raise the dead - and it’s in the ‘bank’ of heaven! God has all power, all glory - all joy - and financial blessing - it’s there, and it is yours! It is YOUR inheritance! You are the sons and daughters of God. The inheritance is yours - everything that Jesus has is yours - the Bible says that we are ‘joint heirs with Christ’. All the power of God, all the glory of God, all of heaven belongs to YOU - NOW! Do you want to receive it?
If only we understood what God wants to give to us. God wants to give us this inheritance. What does this mean? It means you can receive the forgiveness of sin. The curse and the power of Satan can be broken. Your healing is in the Bible. It is part of the inheritance God has given you.
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
