Immediately preceding the Ukraine Day of Prayer, 8 June 2019, David Hathaway had a personal meeting with Patriarch Filaret, Archbishop, Patriarch of Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kiev Patriarchate. Filaret is the most influential religious leader in Ukraine. At 90 years old, he has been in ministry for over 70 years.
Patriarch Filaret commented about David’s ministry in Ukraine: “Governments change, Presidents change, politicians change, but the Holy Word always remains the same. We have lived through persecutions, you David, spent time in prison for distributing Bibles. We serve the same Truth, the same Word of God.”
The final prayer of Jesus was that we would all be One: “I pray that they will all be One, just as You and I are One – as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in us so that the world will believe You sent Me.” (John 17:21, NLT.) Jesus was praying for unity in the Body of Christ. God didn’t send Jesus to create denominations, but to make us the Bride of Christ.
