Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.
Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”
Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. (Acts 3:1-8, NLT)
People often wonder why I get excited, why I jump around on the platform: it’s because I am so excited by the Glory of God. When I begin to talk about the things of God, when I reflect on His greatness, such a joy fills my heart. I want you to receive the same Spirit as I have; to receive the same blessing that Peter and John passed on to this lame man.
Just look at the story: Peter and John went into the Temple to pray. They entered through the Beautiful Gate where there was a lame man lying on the ground. The Bible says he laid there every day. – What does that mean? It means for three years Jesus must have seen that man. How many times did Jesus enter the Temple, and amongst the crowd of hundreds, possibly thousands, this man was there. Yet in everyone’s life there comes a day and an hour when God will meet with you, when He will deliver you. We don’t know the day, we don’t know the hour, but if you will listen, if you will search for God, your day of deliverance will come.
‘For He says: “In the time of favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the time of favour; now is the day of salvation!’ (2 Corinthians 6:2)
