For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. (2 Corinthians 1:20, NIV)
We have to believe ALL the Promises of God. We all believe some, but there are some that people struggle with and can’t believe. I’m challenging you, whether it is in Isaiah or in Hebrews or anywhere in the Scripture, we have to have that confidence that God CANNOT and WILL NOT and DOES NOT FAIL!
If we have this absolute confidence in the Word of God, as God said in a vision to Daniel in Chapter 11:32, “Those who know God, and put their trust in God, will be STRONG and DO EXPOLITS!” Our strength is not in ourselves, not in our physical or mental attributes, not in material things… That’s why Isaiah spoke of not putting your trust in horses or chariots, because in those days, those things were powerful! But look what God did! I’m always amazed when I look back at the crossing of the Red Sea. The lesser of the two great miracles was that the waters dried up and the children of Israel crossed over to the other side. The greater miracle was when God released the waters they drowned and destroyed the most powerful army in the world at that time! That’s what it was when the Israelites were slaves and captives there. Yet God, by one simple act, could absolutely destroy the pursuing army! What tremendous Power God has!
Later, when the Israelites were in the wilderness, did they complain!!! I suppose most of us would have done if we had been with them in the wilderness for 40 years! But all the time they were complaining and wanting to go back to Egypt, there was one uncrossable barrier that prevented them – it was the Red Sea! God had opened the Red Sea to let them escape from Egypt, but He wasn’t going to open it again to let them go back! Our salvation is like this – God is not going to open the ‘Red Sea’ of our salvation to let us go back. I think of it as the Blood of Christ. We came out of our old life of sin into salvation through the Blood of Christ! Hebrews 10:29 says, if we try to return, we trample the Blood of Christ underfoot! To deny our faith, to go back against the very faith that we had, is like walking on, trampling on, crushing the Blood of Christ – which gave us salvation! That’s a very, very powerful statement! We cannot go back, we dare not go back. I want to remind you, that when we came to Christ, we came to Him through a phenomenal miracle, through a phenomenal act of faith. In that moment when you confessed your sin and you called upon God for forgiveness and you believed that the Blood of Jesus Christ paid the price for your sin – in that moment, you came into the Kingdom of God! By a phenomenal act of faith. You had never seen Jesus, you had never seen the Blood of Christ, but by faith you stood on the Promise of God!
There’s an old song, ‘Standing on the Promises of God’! That’s what we have to do! Don’t go back to ‘Egypt’, don’t go back to the strength of the horses and the chariots – let’s stand absolutely firm on the Authority and Power of God’s Promises! And if you are going to believe just one, why not believe them all?
If you can believe just one of God’s Promises, if you can believe even just part of God’s Word – then I challenge you to believe the whole! I believe the Bible from cover to cover, I believe it is the inspired Word of God.
So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. (Hebrews 6:18, NLT)
