Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. You show lovingkindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them—the Great, the Mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts. You are great in counsel and mighty in work, for Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings. You have set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, to this day, and in Israel and among other men; and You have made Yourself a name, as it is this day. (Jeremiah 32:17-20, NKJV)
How great is our God! Sometimes we forget who our God really is: He made the heavens and the earth by His great power and outstretched arm; nothing is too difficult for Him! Some Christians have accepted evolution, but to do so denies the truth of Scripture and diminishes who God is. So much of Scripture, both in Old and New Testament, is based on God as the Creator. His greatness is evidenced by creation!
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead (Romans 1:20, NKJV)
Whatever situation you are facing today, look up! See the majesty of His creation; the more you understand about the world, the more you will understand how great the miracle of creation is! The same God who created the heavens and the earth is fighting your battles. Just as He performed signs and wonders in delivering Israel from Egypt, so He will work miracles in your life.
I like to boast about my God!
I like to boast about the power of my God because He is a God of action! Yes, God is a God of love, of compassion. But the God I know and serve, the God of the Bible, is not passive, but mighty in action on our behalf. A God of love, but also a God of power!
Today it’s time that we began to rise up and recognise the power and authority that we have in Jesus’ Name. Power to preach a life-changing Gospel, power to bring healing miracles in order that He might receive the glory, and so that we as ‘ordinary’ people might have something dynamic to demonstrate in our lives! When Jesus healed the paralytic man (Matthew 9:6) He said, ‘So that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth… rise up and walk!’ Today we must become men and women of action to continue the demonstration begun by Jesus, so that non-believers will desire to have what we have!
Obedience to the Word of God
You gave them this land you had sworn to give their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey. They came in and took possession of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law; they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster on them. (Jeremiah 32:22-23)
When we look at the problems we have in our nation today, it is no use blaming God, we brought these problems upon ourselves. As a nation we have not obeyed the voice of God, we have not done what He commanded us to do. If we learn the lesson of Israel, and understand what this Scripture is saying, if we had been faithful to what God has commanded us, we would not be in the position we are in. It is not God who has failed, it is us. Why is it we don’t have revival? It is because we have failed to keep the commands of God and do what He says.
The greater miracles!
Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, “Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it (the Lord is His name): ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ (Jeremiah 33:1-3)
Look what God was saying to Jeremiah: tell the people, despite the fact they will go into captivity, despite their failures, sins and weaknesses, call unto Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things so big you cannot comprehend. I interpret this as meaning, whereas Jeremiah was referring in the previous chapter to the God who created heaven and earth, who delivered Israel out of Egypt, who has demonstrated signs and wonders, is now saying, Call and I will show you even greater signs. God is offering to do greater miracles than creation; greater miracles than the deliverance from Egypt; greater miracles than the conquering of the land of Israel; if we call upon Him. What a challenge to our faith!
Jesus gave us this challenge: he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father (John 14:12). To paraphrase, Jesus is saying to you and me, When you receive the Holy Spirit, the evidence of this infilling is that you will see greater miracles!
In the Old Testament God is saying to Jeremiah that He will do greater miracles than you’ve seen in the past. Jesus says in the New Testament, you’ve seen what I’ve done, now you will do greater! Why aren’t we expecting the greater miracles today?! I am! This is one thing which has characterised the whole of my ministry, I am looking for, I am expecting to see the greater miracles. When I was in prison for Bible smuggling, how did I get to have the faith to pray my way out? Because eight years before God had healed my throat cancer. I knew since God worked the healing in the past, He was able to work a greater miracle in getting me out of prison. And He did!
Because I am celebrating 70 years of full-time ministry, the evidence of the power of God is in what He has done, but I am not looking back, rather, I am at the threshold of what He will do in the future! After 70 years, it is not a matter of a diminishing ministry, but of greater works!
Health and healing
God promises from Scripture that He would give us health and healing. How wonderful it is to be healed, but the bigger miracle is to enjoy health. In 2002, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. God said to me, ‘David, you’ve got a mountain in your life that you’ve got to move, and that mountain is to get that cancer out from your lung. If you can believe that without an operation you can be completely healed, then nothing will be impossible from there on.’ Now desperately seeking God’s answer from Scripture, I was reading from Jeremiah 33:6, ‘I will bring health and healing’; and Jeremiah 33:20-21, ‘I will not break my covenant with David’; and Psalm 89:35, ‘I will not lie to David’; and ‘Is anything impossible with God?’ (Jeremiah 32:17&27).
I didn’t go to a healing evangelist, I went to the Word of God and God completely healed me – no operation, no treatment – I only had God and the Bible, and that’s all I needed to confound the doctors. They were shocked, they didn’t believe God. But I do, I believe in a God of power, of miracles.
