Do you want to know the secret of an overcoming victorious life in Jesus? In Matthew 8 when Jesus healed the centurion’s servant, the centurion spoke with Jesus about the power of faith and authority. When you speak with faith and command in authority, mountains move! Your sickness will leave by the power of Jesus Name! ‘In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world’ (John 16:33, NKJV).
Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! …Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour. (Matthew 8:5-13, NKJV)
The centurion came to Jesus and said, “I am not worthy that you should enter my house… but I am a man under authority, I say to my servant go and he goes.” The centurion had AUTHORITY to COMMAND obedience! And he recognised this same authority in Jesus to command, when he said to Him, “Speak the word only and my servant will be healed.” This is exactly what Jesus meant when, in Luke 9:1, He gave His disciples ‘power and authority over all demons and to heal diseases’.
The centurion recognised authority, and demonstrated such great FAITH in Jesus and in His authority, it was enough even to heal his servant with one word! This is the secret of power over sickness and evil – authority – and I believe that we have this same authority that Jesus had. Look at Matthew 10:1 where He gave His disciples authority to cast out unclean spirits and heal all manner of sickness and disease, and at verses 7-8 where He says to them, “Preach… Heal the sick… Raise the dead!” If we want to heal the sick we need boldness and authority to cast out the sickness!
Yes, I have an anointing – but I also have an authority, direct from God, over the devil, over sickness, over sin. Jesus did not heal the sick by His praying, He healed them by His authority, by His word of command. With this centurion, Jesus spoke the word – the centurion believed, went home and his servant was healed.
When I pray with the sick, I take my authority directly from God and from His Word. This is what the Roman officer understood, that Jesus was a man like himself who had been given authority. The centurion’s authority was over men – Jesus’ authority was over the devil, sin and sickness. We need to understand that we can also receive this authority in our own lives, if we live by faith and obedience to His authority.
I stand on the Authority and the Word of God. Jesus is set apart, because He is declared to be the Son of God with POWER. God demonstrates this TODAY by miracles, by signs, by wonders!
