Rejoice, Jesus is calling for you. If I could offer you one word of encouragement it would be: rejoice, be of good cheer. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. What does that mean? Jesus is calling you; He wants to lift you up and carry you home. He has heard your prayer and is asking, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
Jesus stood still and commanded blind Bartimaeus to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” (Mark 10:49-51, NKJV)
This man in the Bible really believed. He was crying out, “I am blind, help me.” Why did he cry for help? - He believed that Jesus could deliver him, that Jesus could set him free, that Jesus would open his eyes. The crowds surrounding him asked, “Why are you shouting?” They tried to quiet him and shut him up. “Jesus isn’t interested in you”, they said. The Bible says the more they tried to quiet him, the more he cried, “Jesus, I know who You are. You can help me. You are the only One. Help me Jesus. Heal me Jesus. Open my eyes Jesus. I know You have the power. You are the Son of God. You are the Son of David. Deliver me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Bring the man to Me”.
Call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give Me glory (Psalm 50:15)
When you are in distress, when you are surrounded by problems, when nobody else can help you, when there is nowhere else you can go, if you will cry out to Jesus, if you will call upon the Name of the Lord, Jesus will answer you, He will stop, He will call you. Jesus will call you. What did Jesus say? He said, “Bring the man to Me”. What did Bartimaeus do? He didn’t stay where he was in the dirt at the side of the road - Bartimaeus got up, threw away his filthy clothes, and went to Jesus.
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17)
If you want to come to Jesus, then like Bartimaeus, you need to throw away your old life: you cannot bring the filth and dirt into your new life; the Bible says we are new creations, the old life has gone and the new life has begun. One reason why many people don’t come to Jesus is because they are afraid, they are ashamed of their sin, they feel unlovable: “I’m not good enough; why would Jesus bother with me?” But Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Jesus loves the sinner. The Bible says God didn’t send His Son into the world for the religious and righteous people. God sent Jesus for the sinner. Churches are not for the saints, but a place where the sinner can come to be made whole.
“I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent” (Luke 5:32)
The Kingdom of God is for the despised and rejected, the outcast and unwanted. But if you want to come to Jesus, you need to throw away your years of unbelief: you’ve grown up in unbelief; you’ve lived in unbelief; you’ve lived in sin. The Bible says we all have sinned. But Jesus has made a way for all things to be made new.
The crowd said, “Rejoice, Jesus is calling you.” If I could say one thing to encourage you, it is this: “Rejoice, be of good cheer, Jesus is calling you.” Bartimaeus came to Jesus. Jesus asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?” I believe Jesus is asking the same question to you. He knows you are. He knows where you are. Jesus knew Bartimaeus was blind, but He still asked, “What do you want Me to do?” The man responded, “Lord, I want to see.”
Whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21)
If you will call upon Jesus and say, ‘Lord, I want to be clean; I want to see You; I want to find You,’ you will find Jesus, a miracle will happen. God will forgive your sin. Jesus will come into your life and work a miracle.
